We are fol­low­ing TRVL pub­lish­ing since the begin­ning and it is extra­or­di­nary how the guys behind the mag­a­zine have been con­sis­tent about their pub­lish­ing model and seri­ous about content.

TRVL is a free mag­a­zine about travel, with each issue becom­ing a pho­tog­ra­phy rich monog­ra­phy focus­ing on a loca­tion. Issues are com­pletely free for users as well as the App itself, excep­tion made for the spe­cial issue about Afghanistan by pho­tog­ra­pher Ton Koene which is priced at 1.99$. They are now offer­ing a monthly sub­scrip­tion for 0.99$ which is basi­cally a workaround to enable News­stand com­pat­i­bil­ity. The fea­ture is indeed avail­able to pub­lish­ers to sell sub­scrip­tion for a price. In any case TRVL edi­tors will donate the rev­enue com­ing from sub­scrip­tions, keep­ing up the free mag­a­zine model.

Mag­Plus team started a con­test for design­ers. Build an awe­some mag­a­zine with the Mag­Plus tech­nol­ogy and you could win a free pub­li­ca­tion using their set of tools for Indesign.

The idea behind the con­test is fresh and very well thought. The con­test will run from today to the dead­line on Novem­ber 28^th, last day to sub­mit the com­piled .MIB of the gen­er­ated issue. There is no need to build a full mag­a­zine, but just a few pages could be cre­ated to pitch the look and idea behind the design.

On Decem­ber 7^th a jury from Bon­nier Corp. will select three final can­di­dates and will start a pub­lic vot­ing con­test on face­book to declare the win­ner on Dece­me­ber 16^th. The win­ning project will be the one that receives more likes on the face­book page.

The idea is great because both Mag­Plus and the design­ers par­tic­i­pat­ing will get vis­i­bil­ity, with the oppor­tu­nity to deliver a beau­ti­ful new dig­i­tal mag­a­zine to the App Store using Mag­Plus technology.

The jury is a team of pro­fes­sion­als behind great Bon­nier Corp dig­i­tal magazines.
